Lake Orange Youth Tournament

On Saturday, September 15th, my brothers and I fished a 16 and under tournament at lake orange.
The tournament hours were 12:00pm-4:00pm, so we arrived at 11:30, put the canoe and kayaks in, and registered. Today we would be pursuing the "biggest fish caught" prize so we had a ton of corn and homemade boilies packed. We  fished for the first 2 hours over our heavily chummed cove where I caught my 20# grass carp in the summer, but unfortunatey, no takes and no bubbles in the chum area, so we rigged up our ultra lights and went out in search of crappies.
We anchored up at a fallen tree in about 10' of water and dropped trout magnets for around 30 minutes, producing only one 10" crappie and a few bluegills. So we made a long haul down the lake to a beaver hut in about 4 feet of water that we always crush crappies at. As soon as we got there, we began slaying 7-8 3/4 inch (lake limit is 9") crappies on charlie brewer slider grubs on 1/32 oz jigheads fished slow near the bottom. I told my little brother to catch a big golden shiner to weigh in because nobody else would so he rigged up worm under a bobber and caught about an 8 or 9 incher and put it in a bucket in his kayak. We continued to crush crappies untill we had to go weigh in.
Turns out, I was one of two people to weigh in a crappie that day, and my little brothers shiner? Well that fish won him a shimano solstice 1000 on a berkley amp rod! We took home about 120 bass worms/lizards, a bunch of weedless hooks and slip weights, 20$ for dicks sporting goods, and 3 bass pro shops coffee mugs. And there was no entry fee! Thanks to everyone who sponsored this tournament, and all of the volunteers who helped out, It was a great day and I will definitely be returning next year along with a host of many other young fishermen. Thanks for reading!
