Lake Anna Has Been Good To Us

My brothers and I have made two trips to the Dike III area of Lake Anna (both cold side and hot side) this week with our kayaks. Fishing has been nothing short of spectacular.

Stripers:

On Monday we fished for stripers at the dike early and late when the fish push bait up to the surface. We caught our fish trolling shallow running crankbaits and jerkbaits along the edges of the current flow, landing 10 total, no keepers (20") but several were close, lots of fun!

On Thursday my brother Wyatt and I braved the wind and pouring rain to target the stripers again at the Dike. We started off using crankbaits and jerkbaits like we did the last time but we weren't seeing any surface activity and only hooked 3 fish, landing two of them. We then looked for fish with a fishfinder and jigged blade baits for them, landing a couple white perch and two little stripers. We could see plenty of fish down there but they weren't eating. I went to the bank and caught a bunch of small bluegills to try on downlines, we didn't see any shad or herring so it was sort of a last resort. We got back on one of the schools we found earlier and instantly started catching white perch and small stripers. The same schools we spent hours on jigging blade baits were eating the little bluegills as soon as we got them to the bottom. We went through a dozen bluegills so I had to go catch more, we continued catching them until we had to leave at 3pm. Fish were caught in 25-45 FOW, the "magic depth" was 35-40'. Our total for the day was 13 stripers, 11 white perch, and a couple catfish. Two of the stripers were 20" and went on the ice, along with most of the perch.

A few hybrids mixed in

Bass:

We fished the hot side from about 9am to 4pm on Monday, the wind was really bad so we could only fish protected areas but when we did they were biting really well. The canal in pool 3 was loaded with fish, I caught them on a 4" keitech swimbait and even a spook. We caught some fish on shakeyheads fishing docks and the transition between rip rap and sand in 6-12FOW. I also caught a few fishing wind blown points with a spinnerbait on our way back to the dike with the wind behind us. We also caught a few bass and perch on drop shots and blades in deep water 25-35' but the wind made it very difficult. The big surprise of the day was a 21" saugeye that ate my shakeyhead under a dock in the canal, that fish went on ice!
This was one of two largemouth that came from the cold side, I caught her on a spook. 19"

You guys are lucky or good. I have fished the same area and had crappy results.

What's the story about the warm and cold spot? Never heard anything like that. How can I find it?
