Trout Recruiting Trip

Today my little brother Ewing and I fished a couple of creeks in Madison County to get some trout to bring home as pets for our backyard pond. The creeks were stocked on Thursday, and we also fished Friday (caught 6 total). The creeks in Madison receive a ridiculous amount of pressure, so even though you may see 200 fish in a day, it wouldn't be uncommon for only 6 or 7 of them to hit.
We started out fishing the Rose River in front of Graves Mountain Lodge, I caught 3 fish in a shallow swift pool that we spotted them in on Friday, and then my brother caught 3 in a small stretch of pocket water below a pool that had been stocked. We put those fish in a cooler full of water from the creek with an aerator in it, and headed down the road to the Hughes River. Our first stop was at a big pool below a bridge that we usually pull a few fish out of, and even though we only saw 5 or 6 fish, we doubled up within 5 minutes of arrival and landed both of them.
The fish quit after we landed the two, but when we stopped at the next hole, we saw 200 or so trout schooled throughout the entire length of the pool. Since our total was 10 fish, and you have to stop fishing once a limit has been "creeled" (no culling allowed), we started catching and releasing. We caught and released 6 more, and then kept our remaining 2 fish. We freshened up the water in our cooler, and then headed home. Luckily, all of the fish made it home without a problem, and we put them in our "goldfish pond" (pump circulation). Now I will have some fish that are active enough to fish for when it freezes over! As always, thanks for reading!
The fish in the lower righthand corner looks dead, but he was swimming around when we got home!
Caught this big rainbow on Friday at the confluence of the Robinson and the Rose River (this one was washed down from Rose River Farm)
