Limb lining bullheads

The north fork of the rivanna river is a very small stream (20 yards across with a maximum of 6 feet deep) that is about a half mile away from my house so I fish it often. We have caught atleast 20 different species in it including a 19"smallmouth I caught on 4 pound line, well there is a little bit of backround knowledge, here is the story...
My friend and I had been cooped up all day because of a thunderstorm and were eager to fish, and we decided to set some limb lines for catfish and eels in the river since there would be a lot of catfish activity due to the high water. I had an 800 yard spool of 15lb test, a bag  of 1/4 oz. split shot, and a 50 pack of light wire #6 eagle claw hooks. We loaded up in his kayak, yes both of us in a 10 foot kayak, but we made it work, we put into a small tributary and we floated to the river in that since the water was so high. We started off by digging a couple worms and catching a half a dozen fallfish for bait.
I filetted those and cut them into small chunks for bait, we started off down the river and soon realized we were going to have to balance a little better, I was in the back of the kayak, in 6 inches of water. but we figured it out and started tying up lines. I tied 3 dropper loops with hooks on them and baited them with cut bait, put a couple split shot on the bottom of the line and tied them off on overhanging limbs as we drifted by. I set about 30 lines that night and was very excited about what might be feeding that evening.
The next day we put the kayak in and drifted the same route, our first line had a 10" bullhead on it, still alive too, and we put him in our bucket to bring home to our pond, the next line had a 12" dead bullhead with a bite mark in the shape of a triangle on it. TURTLES :(....We continued down the river to find more dead fish and bent hooks, so next time we will be using 40 pound lines and 3/0 cirle hooks to get some big snapping turtles, that should be a fun post to make, thanks for reading.
